First Annual District Weekend of the Cross was held July 24th - 27th
Weekend of the Cross (WOC) is more than just a local mission trip. It is designed for youth groups who are looking to make a lasting impact on the community.
Every year in July, churches and communities across the state of Louisiana roll up their sleeves for Weekend of the Cross. Last year, Henning Memorial hosted over 45 students and adults who worked together to help families in the Sulphur community.

This year, Henning Memorial UMC combined forces with local United Methodist churches in our area to put on the first annual District Weekend of the Cross. St. Luke Simpson UMC in Lake Charles hosted over 100 students and adults from across the district in WOC's collaborative effort to share God's love with others.
Participants were divided into work teams and then sent out for the entire weekend to do light construction projects and handy work for those in need in our community.

These work projects provided an opportunity for youth and adults to come together and use their gifts and abilities to make a difference in the lives of others.

In addition to service projects, intimate worship services were held each night which included a band and speaker and participants had the opportunity to both serve and grow spiritually.
At the state level this year's Weekend of the Cross rounded up more than 640 youth and adults working together across the state of Louisiana. Henning Memorial UMC is blessed to be a church that encourages our youth and adults to be the hands and feet of Christ to the world around us. A special thanks to all those who participated and made this year's event possible. We look forward to your support next year!
