PRAYER CONCERNS 5-25-08

NOVEMBER 16, 2008

 

TODAY IS LAITY SUNDAY, so Sue Brinkley will give the sermon for both of our morning services.

 

SCRIPTURE READING this morning is 1 Thessalonians 5:11 / Ephesians 4:29 (N.T. page 205 / N.T. page 194).

 

EVENING SERVICE will be led by Rev. Heather Leyland.  Scripture is Matthew 25:14-30.

 

OUR CHURCH FAMILY extends its sympathy to Melinda Yarbrough and family on the death of her grandmother, Betty Massey.

 

OUR CHURCH FAMILY extends its sympathy to Gerald & Hilda Clark and family on the death of their son, Charles “Gary” Clark.

 

CHOIR - The Chancel Choir/Cantata Choir will be having a special CANTATA-ONLY rehearsal today from 3:30 p.m. until 5:15 p.m. in the choir room.

 

WESLEY FOUNDATION Fundraiser:  In a hurry?  No time to fix a meal?  Let the McNeese Wesley Foundation help!  Purchase a Jambalaya pint for $6.00.  They are freezer ready.  Order your pints from Ann Warner, Rev. Heather Leyland or Kathleen McFarlain by December 1st.  Look for the table in the Gallery on Sunday or call the church office 527-5483.  Proceeds benefit India mission trip in December.

 

UMYF - Youth Council meeting next Sunday November 23rd at 3:00 pm in the Youth House.

 

YOUTH OUT OF SCHOOL ACTIVITY - On Monday November 24th from 1 to 4 pm, the youth will be at the Youth House hanging out, playing games, working on decorations for our November service project Night in Bethlehem.  All youth should come and hang out.  If you need a ride please contact Olivia at 302-9922.

 

ST. MICHAEL & ALL ANGELS Episcopal Church will sponsor an evening of music performed by Michael Buckles, violinist and Boriana Buckles, pianist.  The concert will feature a variety of forms and styles of music.  St. Michaels is located at 123 West Sale Road (near Kmart), Lake Charles, Louisiana.  The concert is open to the public free of charge.  There is a reception honoring Michael and Boriana immediately following the concert in the Parish Hall.

 

RUTH CIRCLE will meet Thursday, November 20th at 2pm at the Mustard Seed instead of normally scheduled time.

 

Succoth or the Festival of the Booths was celebrated in Jesus’ time to remember when their ancestors lived in tents and to remind them of the way God cared for them and to remind them to care for others.  Bring your canned green beans Sunday, November 23rd.  You will place them in the Succoth Booth at Children’s Time at both services.  We will deliver the food to Care/Help.

 

NEXT SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 23RD, we will observe United Methodist Student Sunday

NIGHT IN BETHLEHEM - Sunday, November 30th, 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm

 

The youth will be the Shepherds, Tax Collectors, Beggars, and Soldiers for Night in Bethlehem.
